双喜写作“”,又称联体吉祥喜字,是用文字组成的图案,俗称“字花”。原指同时发生两件喜事,现多用在结婚庆典上,表达双方欢喜之意。“”对中国人来说是一种家喻户晓的吉祥象征,多被用于婚娶之时,以增添喜庆的气氛。除此之外,在图画、布料、建筑、家具及其它日用品中都可见到“”的图案。
“”字的来历相传与中国北宋宰相、著名政治家、文学家王安石有关。
据传,王安石23岁那年赴京赶考,途经马家镇时天色已晚,王安石留在镇上歇息。饭后无事就上街闲逛,看见马员外家的宅院外挂着一盏走马灯,灯上写着“走马灯,灯马走,灯息马停步”半幅对子,显然是在等人对出下联。王安石不由拍手连称“好对!好对!”随即信步走过。
第二天,王安石进了考场,答题时胸有成竹,一挥而就,交了头卷。主考官见他聪明机敏,就传来面试。考官指着厅前的飞虎旗说:“飞虎旗,旗虎飞,旗卷虎身藏。”王安石脑中立刻浮现出马员外家走马灯上的那半副对子,不假思索地答道:“走马灯,灯马走,灯息马停步。”对得又快又好,令主考官赞叹不已。
考试结束,王安石回到马家镇,又特意走到马员外家观灯。看茶落座后,马员外便请王安石对走马灯上的对子,王安石再次移花接木,随手写道:“飞虎旗,旗虎飞,旗卷虎身藏。”员外见他对得巧妙工整,决定把女儿许给他。走马灯上的对子,乃是马小姐为选婿而出的。
结婚那天,正当新郎新娘拜天地时,有人来报:“王大人金榜题名,明日请赴琼林宴!”真是双喜临门,喜上加喜,王安石即兴挥毫,在红纸上写了一个大“”字,让人贴在门上,并随口吟道:“巧对联成双喜歌,马灯飞虎结丝罗。”
从此,“”字便流传开来。其后,“”字以及结婚时贴双喜,在中国民间开始流行。
作为一种具有中国传统文化特色的符号,“”在首饰中的运用也屡见不鲜,无论是在古代首饰还是在现代首饰中,“”都诠释着一种喜悦、一种典雅、一种意蕴、一种和谐。2008年北京奥运会的奥运村也是按“”字布局来设计的,以体现中国几千年传统的吉祥神韵。
