How Did Thanksgiving

Day Come

The traditional American Thanksgiving Day celebration goes back to 1621. In that year a special feast was prepared in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The colonists(殖民地开拓者)had come?to the newland from England to look for religious freedom(宗教自由).They faced difficulties in comingacross the ocean. The ship which carried them was called the Mayflower(五月花).The North Atlantic was difficult to travel. There were bad storms. They were helped in learning to live in the new land by the Indians who inhabited(居住) the region(地区). The puritans(清教徒), as they were called, had much to be thankful for. There they got their religious freedom. They learned to adjust(调整)their farming habits to the climate and soil. When they chose the fourth Thursday for their Thanksgiving celebration, they invited their neighbors, the Indians to join them in dinner and a prayer(祈祷)of gratitude(感激)for the new life.

Notes:

1.the Indians:
