年轻的时候她很漂亮，追求者如过江之鲫。然而她的选择却让众人大跌眼镜，她同一个其貌不扬家境一般的推销员结了婚。
她很聪明，虽然那时她还不懂股票，但她明白，选择对象不应只看他现在的条件，更应预测到他将来能否有所作为。她看中的，是推销员身上具有的坚强意志和过人智慧，做任何事包括追求她都不屈不饶的精神。她坚信，这样的男人用不了多久就有出头之日。
婚后小两口和和美美地过了一段日子。如同想象的那样，丈夫对她关怀入微呵护有加。但不知为什么，她对丈夫竟感到莫名的不满，或者是因为他沉湎于小家庭的安乐而丧失了以前最受她青睐的上进心吧。
她或是循循善诱，或是大发雷霆，或是唠叨不止，都不能激发丈夫追求事业的雄心。难道自己当初的选择有误？她不止一次地问自己，甚至开始感到后悔。万念俱灰之时，她向丈夫提出，如果他再这样碌碌无为下去，除了离婚她别无选择。
丈夫很爱她，虽对她的态度颇有微词，但仍害怕失去她，于是他起早贪黑，忘我地奔波于商场。丈夫的确很能干，没过几年就有了自己的公司，成了他们生活的那座小城的知名人物。
原来对她的选择不解的人们纷纷向她投来艳羡的目光，赞叹她当初的明智。这时她已学会炒股，每至此时就带着得意的口吻说道：“其实婚姻就像炒股，股票最初价格的高低并不重要，重要的是能把握股票的走势，发现升值潜力大的黑马……”
后来有一天，丈夫向她提出离婚，她不依，寻死觅活要向他讨个说法。丈夫冷冷地说道：“你不是说婚姻像炒股吗？我只不过是你偶然发现的一只低开高走的股票而已，现在股价已经涨到最高点，该是把你抛出的时候了！”
A Bad Speculation
When she was young， she was so pretty that her suitors were as numerous as silver carps moving down a stream．But her choice shocked everyone： she married a salesman who was neither handsome nor rich．
At that time she had no knowledge of stocks． Nevertheless she was clever enough to understand that a man with good opportunities for getting rich in the foreseeable future should not be judged by his present value． She agreed to marry the salesman because he thought him exceptionally intelligent， strong－minded， and perseverant in pursuit of any goal including winning her heart． She was sure that he would soon succeed in life and make a good match when she married him．
They lived a happy life after they got married． As she had expected he was in deep love of her and did everything to care for her but soon without reason she felt dissatisfied with him． Perhaps he was no longer aggressive， losing himself in comfort and lacking in the initiative she valued so much．
She tried with skill and patience to persuade him to devote more time and efforts to his career． She jawed at him and even flew into fury when she saw he was not spurred on by ambition． Again and again she asked herself if she had made a wrong choice． She even began to repent of having married him． In despair， she told him she would have no choice but get a divorce if he kept on attempting nothing and accomplishing nothing．
He loved her so madly that he was afraid of losing her although he felt she shouldn＇t have pressed him so hard． He toiled from morning till night， devoting his efforts to his work． Undoubtedly he was an able businessman， who had a company of his own a few years later and became a celebrity in the small town they lived in．
People who couldn＇t understand in the past why she married him began to envy her， looked at her admiringly and praised her for the intelligent choice she had made． Now she had begun to speculate on stocks． When they talked about how wise she was， she would say complacently， ″ In fact marrying a man is like speculating on stocks． You don＇t judge the value of a stock by its initial price in the market． What is important for you is to decide which stock has potentialities for showing an upward tendency and will appreciate sharply．．．．″
Later on her husband proposed a divorce one day． She did not agree． She threatened to commit suicide if he did not give her a reasonable explanation． He said coldly， ″Don＇t you say marrying a man is just like speculating on stocks． I happen to be a stock you hold that appreciates sharply from a low initial price． Since the stock price has come to the highest point， it＇s time for you to sell the stock．″
