Veronica: Hey, Jimmy. ①How’re you holding up?
Jimmy: I’m alright. But I take it, from your enquiry, that you noticed my status on Facebook.
Veronica: Sorry. I couldn’t help it. ②And I know what a big deal it is to change your relationship status online. You pretty much make it official when it’s posted it for all to see.
Jimmy: Yeah…
Veronica: ③Geez, that sucks! I really thought she was the one. I feel your pain Jimmy.
Jimmy: Thanks Vee. I appreciate the comforting words and all, and I, I don’t wanna seem ungrateful, but, if I’m being honest, I don’t think you have the slightest idea as to how I feel. You’ve been with the same guy since 8th grade.
Veronica: So what? Does that mean that someone can’t be a movie critic unless they’ve actually acted in movies? Or that a 1)nerdy newspaper columnist can’t write about football unless he’s played it professionally? Or that a doctor can’t treat someone with AIDS unless they’ve 2)contracted it as well?
Jimmy: While those are all excellent examples of people who studied a 3)craft and followed it as a career, I’d rather get relationship advice from someone who’s, you know, actually had relationship problems.
Veronica: So you’d rather get advice from people who fail at relationships than someone who’s happily married and has made their relationship work for years?
Jimmy: Alright, I’ll give you that one. But answer me this: How did you know your husband was the one?
Veronica: Because, whenever I’m with him, or even just thinking about him, I know there’s no place I’d rather be than in his arms. It’s where I feel the safest, because I don’t need to hide my true self.
Jimmy: ④And you knew all this right off the bat? You were always so comfortable around him?
Veronica: No. He put me at ease by making me laugh, he always has. I think as long as you marry someone with the same sense of humor as you have, you’ve got as good a shot as anyone. After all, who wouldn’t want to laugh for the rest of their life?
Jimmy: But what about being 4)compatible in other ways? Like, in the bedroom?
Veronica: Yeah, what about it?
Jimmy: Well, you’ve only slept with one person, right? Are you OK with the fact that you will only be with that one person till death do you part?
Veronica: Yeah, I’m cool with it, but, how about this? If I ever get bored of it, you’ll be the first one I call, alright? Gotta go, see ya later!
Jimmy: Wait. Vee, are you serious? Wait, hold up!
