“Prudent monetary policy and proactive fiscal policy”

Leaders at the conference reviewed the country’s economic works in 2011, analyzed the international and domestic economic situations, noted challenges to the country’s economic growth, and charted the country’s macroeconomic policies for 2012.

At the meeting it was agreed that China will take a slew of measures to ensure “stable and relatively fast” economic growth amid the “extremely grim and complicated” global outlook this year, while adjusting the economic structure and regulating inflationary expectations.

Leaders decreed that the nation would maintain its “prudent monetary policy and proactive fiscal policy”, and make its macroeconomic regulation more “targeted, flexible and forward-looking” in 2012.

The Central Economic Work Conference has been held regularly by the Central Committee of the Communist Party and the State Council, at the end of every year since 1994.

The year 2012 is considered a crucial year in implementing China’s 12th Five-Year plan (2011-2015), so the plans and strategies made in this conference will be significant for consolidating the sound momentum of China’s economy and further promoting the steady and relatively fast economic growth.
