J. K. Rowling Has Written a New Book Under the Name

J. K. Rowling has published a crime novel called The Cuckoo's Calling under the pseudonym （笔名） Robert Galbraith. After she was exposed as the authoress in July， Rowling said， "I had hoped to keep this secret a little longer because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience. It has been wonderful to publish without hype （大肆宣传） or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name." Set in London， the novel features a one-legged private detective called Cormoran Strike， who is hired to investigate the death of a supermodel called Lula Landry. The book received a rave （狂热褒评的） review in Publishers Weekly when it was released.

Volunteers Form Human Wall to Guide Baby Sea Turtles to Sea

Volunteers on Bonaire Island noticed a group of turtles hatching （孵化） a little further out on the beach， closer to the airport than normal. This was a problem because once they hatch， the babies normally seek out the bright moonlight to guide them to the sea. However， when the turtles are born so close to the airport， they get confused between the bright lights from the terminal （航站楼） and that of the moon and often end up heading in the wrong direction. A similar situation a few years ago resulted in a whole group getting killed on a busy road. Determined not to let this occur again， the volunteers came together and created a human wall around the turtles on July 1st， effectively blocking out all artificial light. Sure enough， all 112 turtles made it to sea safely.

Giant Mirrors to Light Up One Dark Norwegian Town

In the midst of five months of darkness this coming winter， the Norwegian town of Rjukan will have one bright spot： a town square illuminated by sunlight bounced off giant mirrors placed atop the town's neighboring mountains. Three mirrors with a total surface area of about 538 square feet will sit at an angle to redirect winter sun down into the town， lighting up over 2150 square feet of concentrated space in the town square. A computer located in Rjukan's main town hall office will operate the solar-powered system， which continually monitors the movement of the sun and calculates the optimal （最佳的） positioning of the German-made mirrors to keep the square bathed in sunlight.

对小镇居民来说，能在长达五个月的漫长冬夜见到阳光该有多幸福。因此，就算这一工程耗资巨大，也值了。
