In 1998, the China Tibet Snow Lotus Childrens Art Troupe made a very successful performance tour of the United States. In the fall of 2000, it repeated this success with a visit to Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. Everyone showed great warmth towards the troupe. Government ministers came to watch the performance, and spoke highly of their performing art. They received these little artists with hugs and kisses, and had pictures taken with them. "Marvelous!" exclaimed an employee with the Chile Association for Construction. "Only China is in a position to organize such a high-level performance." In Argentina, the Chinese art troupe was invited to the Presidential Residence, where the Argentine president and advisor to the Presidential Secretariat watched the performance. In Brazil, the Minister of Culture greeted the Chinese art troupe with a speech delivered in front of the Grand State Theater: "I am glad, and also very excited, to be able to invite, through the assistance of the Chinese Embassy, the young Chinese Tibetan artists to perform. This theater is where Brazilian and foreign art troupes of very high level perform exclusively. "This tour makes it possible for us to learn more of Chinas Tibet and Tibetan customs, folklore and natural scenery. "These children have become young envoys of friendship between Brazil and China!"

SPECIAL TREATMENT ENJOYED. The Monterrey Saint Lucia International Art Festival, sponsored by Mexico, is one of the major international cultural and art activities with great impact in Latin America and the world at large. During the most recent one, close to 400 top-notch artists from 10 countries, including Italy, Spain, Poland, the Republic of Korea and Argentina, participated. The Chinese Tibetan group was the only childrens art troupe participating, so, obviously, it received a special treatment. During the opening ceremony of the art festival, the organizing committee arranged the young artistes from Chinas Tibet to appear on stage to thunderous applause. When they had finished their performance in the Municipal Government Hall, the audience responded with applause, fresh flowers and greeting hats. Two girls followed the Chinese Tibetan art troupe on three evenings. They were profoundly enchanted by the performance. A 89-year-old lady watched the performance, and told this reporter she had visited Tibet three years earlier. During their tour, the young Chinese Tibetan artists had chances to meet local primary school children. During their visit to a primary school in Monterrey, Mexico, the local youngsters used hundreds of red balloons to form a national flag of China. And local Chinese residents were invited to write "Warmly Welcome" in Chinese. And close to 1,000 pupils waved Chinese and Mexican national flags. A warm atmosphere reigned....

HAPPY CHILDREN

When the China Tibet Snow Lotus Childrens Art Troupe toured Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, children of the four Latin American countries went wild with joy. The Tibetan art troupe presented 12 items showing the lives of Tibetan children. The peoples government of the Tibet Autonomous Region took a keen interested in the tour, with its leaders watching their rehearsal and advising the children to take good care of themselves. The troupe left Beijing on August 31, 2000, accompanied by teachers andtroupe members each responsible for two children. They passed through 14 cities in five countries, and gave 32 official performances watched by some 70,000 people. The schedule was so tight that it amounted to an average 1.5 performances per day. On October 14, these children left New York for Beijing. They had been away from their parents for 45 days not easy for children aged about 10. "Did you miss your parents while abroad?" "Yes, of course." "Then, did you cry?" "Yes, of course." "Well, who cried first? "Girls, of course."
