The old-day atmosphere is disturbed, however, by a dozen paparazzi[狗仔队] flashbulbs[闪光灯泡], only feet from the store’s

entrance. Apparently[显然], someone has been tipped

off[给……通风报信] to 16-year-old Demi Lovato’s presence here today, and in this post-Perez注1 world, word spreads fast.

Old folks may not know her name yet, but to the Disney demographic[人口统计学的], Lovato is already major. She is best known as the heroine, alongside teen dreamboats[梦中情人]

the Jonas Brothers, of the Disney TV movie Camp Rock, which has already been seen by 35 million U.S. viewers in three months’ time. She later released her debut[首次登台]

album, Don’t Forget, in September, 2008. And with even more projects in the works, there’s even a chance the Dallas native could unseat the Mouse’s current queen, Miley Cyrus. Still, when told that several photographers have abandoned a sighting of Katie Holmes注2 in order to capture this moment, Lovato’s eyes widen in disbelief, “Whoa, for me, seriously?”

Her rise has never been easy. Lovato

attended a local casting call at age five, but didn’t make the cut until the next year. Since then, she found occasional guest roles,

including a 2006 episode of Prison Break. Her real launch came in January, 2007, when she finally landed a regular role on a Disney

Channel original short series.

And off the set, her peers had proved less than kind, especially when it came to her career. “I was kind of bullied[欺负]. I had a hate wall in the bathroom, and everyone signed a petition[请愿] that said, ‘We all hate Demi Lovato.’”

However, anyone who had doubt about Lovato’s talent probably had stunned by Camp Rock.

“We’ve tried hard to help her manage her success,” says Gary Marsh, Disney Channel entertainment president. “But what we are good at, and probably better than anybody else, is finding and nurturing[培养] talent. And Demi is an extraordinary talent.”

“Hilary Duff has stayed a really good role model,’” says Lovato of the 21-year-old former Disney star. In 2013, Lovato will herself turn 21, so what’s the plan? “Hopefully I’ll still be touring and doing my TV show; obviously

I’ll continue that. I want to start doing movies.

And I would love to maybe direct one day.’” From teen sensation[轰动一时的人物] to lady Scorsese注3 in 20-something? Considering what’s she managed to do in the first 16,

Lovato just might make it happen.
