The year 2011 has arrived. On the occasion of saying farewell to 2010 and celebrating 2011, I would like to express my heartfelt respect and gratitude to leaders at all levels and people from all walks of life for your care and support. I would like to say thank you to readers and colleagues at cultural Dialogue. Thank you for being with us in the past year. It was because of you that Cultural Dialogue in the past year advanced with times and published good articles.

Over the past year, Cultural Dialogue upheld its publishing guideline and published mainstream contents. In step with the central work of the CPC Zhejiang Committee and Zhejiang Provincial Government, we promoted culture and did our bit to boost cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. We are glad to say that we made contributions to the prosperity of culture and art undertakings in the province and we played a part in building Zhejiang into a powerhouse of culture and further boosting reform and opening up to the outside world.

China’s modernization drive is a great undertaking and can be appropriately compared to a symphony of power and resonance. Year 2010 brought the 11th Five-Year Plan to a successful end and Year 2011 started the 12th Five-Year Plan.

Year 2011 is the departure point of the 12th Five-Year Plan. In this brand new year, we will continue to study, understand and implement the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 17th national congress of the CPC and advertise the great accomplishments in social and economic development of the 11th Five-Year Plan and the international mission of the 12th Five-Year Plan. The Cultural Dialogue will continuously uphold the time-tested publishing principles and content positioning and will continue to make fresh efforts to seek innovation, excellence and diversity.

Seeking innovation is a key to prosperity for any media. The Cultural Dialogue will continue to respond positively and actively to Comrade Hu Jintao’s call for media innovation. Media innovation includes innovation in concept, content, form, method and technology. Cultural Dialogue needs to keep bringing changes to the monthly in an innovative and bold way. We take it upon ourselves to be innovative so that we can highlight our features and attract more readers. Only after we accomplish all this can we demonstrate the value and art of this publication. We are to watch more closely new social trends and events and new phenomena of our time and we are to publish more stories on new subjects, in new angles and new prose styles. We are to make continuous efforts to bring out new changes and make Cultural Dialogue better.

Seeking excellence means that we are to continue to publish good articles. We must firmly understand we want excellent stories and excellent columns. We will work hard to make good stories and spare no efforts to make Cultural Dialogue an excellent publication, form a unique style and publish in elegance. We are determined to publish excellent articles and present our readers with profound ideas and art.

Seeking diversity means that we will continue to promote the excellence of our national culture and draw on the achievement of world cultures. We will broaden our vision and seek more subjects to report. We will look at China and the world and we will strive to diversify and enrich our contents. We will make efforts to reflect the charms of our era, portray the people as masters of the country, look for fresh heroes in fresh stories, and promote fresh prose styles so as to enhance affinity and attraction of our publication. We want to satisfy our readers’ requirements and aesthetics.

As a window on cultural exchanges in Zhejiang, China and the rest of the World, Cultural Dialogue is entrusted with a glorious and sacred mission. It is our aim to strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation between Zhejiang, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan on one hand and the rest of the world on the other. We will adhere to the publication guideline of “basing the magazine in Zhejiang, radiating out to the country and embracing the world”. We will endeavor to show our individuality and make Cultural Dialogue into an excellent periodical.

In 2011, we will, as always, strengthen our ties and contacts with all the people concerned, continue with our endeavors to have the support of leaders and departments and local governments at all levels, to work with friends at home and abroad, and make our best to seek new development for Cultural Dialogue in a down-to-earth spirit.
