Geoff: This is so frustrating.

Rachel: Sorry, what?

Geoff: Hmm?

Rachel: What’s frustrating?

Geoff: Did I say that out loud?

Rachel: You sure did.

Geoff: Haha, sorry. I was kind of talking to myself I guess.

Rachel: Well fill me in. ①What’s got your goat?

Geoff: Just this résumé I’m trying to 1)whip up. I’m completely 2)stumped.

Rachel: Why?

Geoff: I’m supposed to be adding my work experience, right?

Rachel: That tends to be the way résumés work.

Geoff: But I haven’t got any.

Rachel: Any what?

Geoff: Any work experience.

Rachel: Wait, what? You haven’t got any work experience at ALL?

Geoff: This is my first year out of university.

Rachel: And you didn’t do anything in uni? Not even something part time?

Geoff: Oh ②get off your high horse! It’s not like you had a job.

Rachel: Sure I did. I had an internship.

Geoff: Well so did I, but what’s that got to do with the price of pig’s feet?

Rachel: Uhhh, Geoff, that counts as work experience.

Geoff: Really? But it’s not like I got paid or anything.

Rachel: So? They’re not asking you how much you made, they’re asking about experience.

Geoff: I just didn’t think it would count.

Rachel: Of course it counts. A year’s worth of what amounts to slave labour in the field?

Geoff: Well, when you put it that way…

Rachel: And hold up―I remember you volunteering one summer for the housing project.

Geoff: Sure. I volunteer with them every year.

Rachel: You can use that, too.

Geoff: Volunteer work?

Rachel: You just said it: “work”. It still boils down to experience in your field.

Geoff: Wow. ③I never even thought to look outside the box like that.

Rachel: Well you’ve got to when you’re writing your first résumé. Plus, like I said, your prospective employer doesn’t care if you made money. They only care if you can do the job.

Geoff: Man Rachel, you really saved me on this one. Thanks.

Rachel: ④That’s what I’m here for!
