学界对南怀瑾先生的评价是“上下五千年，纵横十万里，经纶三大教，出入百家言。”他却自评：“我的一生，八个字：一无所长、一无是处。没有一样是对的。” 他活着的时候，以质朴的道德、无碍的智慧、高尚的人格影响了他的朋友、学生以及无数的读者。现在他走了，他的作品和“欲为天心唤梦醒”的高尚情怀同样也会影响到更多的人。

This September， a noted scholar and writer who went to Taiwan in 1949 but lived in the mainland for the latter part of his life， died from cardiorespiratory failure in Taihu Great Learning Center. He was nan huai?chin（Nan Huai Jin） and his death was a great loss to the Chinese academic circle. In memory of master Nan， people from all walks of life held a mourning ceremony for the great scholar of this generation.

Master Nan is one of the most famous and respected Buddhist masters in China. A great teacher in the Confucian tradition， the Buddhist tradition and the Taoist tradition， he has written more than 30 books on these subjects. His books are always insightful and lively. He speaks with the authority of first? hand experience—being a great scholar， a great action master and a great teacher at the same time.

His books are extremely popular in China and some of his more popular books went into 20th edition. There is no question that his teaching has influenced many young intellectuals. His books are also well respected by the academicians. In the words of Thomas Cleary， the famous scholar and translator of Chinese classics， “There is no question that Master Nan’s work is a cut above anything else available from modern authors， either academic or sectarian， and I would like to see his works gain their rightful place in the English speaking world...”

Though Master Nan has left us forever， his works will still influence the academic circle and us for a very long time.
