Sydney

Sydney is a young city. Its history goes back just over 200 years. But in Australia, it is the oldest city. It is also the country's largest city.

The climate of Sydney is very pleasant. It's not too cold in winter and not too hot in summer. The sky is blue, the air is fresh; birds sing in the garden. People in Sydney seem to have an easy lifestyle. Many people think that Sydney is one of the most attractive（有吸引力的）cities in the world, with lots of tall modern buildings.

There are many interesting places in Sydney, like Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour and many museums. But the most enjoyable places are still the beaches. The beaches there are famous all over the world. If you are in Sydney, you must go to the beaches there. They are really worth a visit.

Something about coffee

Coffee is made from coffee beans that grow on trees. The trees are not very tall. They are less than four meters. They have white flowers. Fruits start to grow when the trees are five years old. Each fruit has two seeds in it. We call the seeds coffee beans.

Coffee came from Ethiopia in East Africa（东非的埃塞俄比亚）. At first, people found that animals stayed awake all night after eating the leaves and fruits of coffee plants. They felt surprised and started to eat the fruits, too.

People started making a drink from coffee beans about 700 years ago. They took from Ethiopia to the Middle East and then to Europe. Now coffee has been one of the most popular drinks in the world. People can drink coffee at home or go to coffee houses with their friends.

Where is salt from?

Salt is very improtant to us. Without enough salt， we will get ill. Animals need salt, too. They need salt to grow strong.

Most of salt comes from the sea. People dig very big pools and let sea water in. When the sun dries up the water, people can get salt from the ground.

There are a lot of salt wells in our country. People bring the well water up to the ground and then dry it up in big jars over fire. In this way, people get salt.

We can also get salt from salt mines（矿）. The salt mines are under the ground. Some years ago, people found a big salt mine in Jiangxi Province.

In the northwest of China, there are a great number of salt lakes. Some of these lakes are very big. The salt in these lakes will be enough for all the people in our country for as long as hundreds of years.

How to deal with mercury

水银，也称汞，是一种有害物质。人体内汞含量超标，会引起心、肝、神经功能等多方面的疾病，大脑是最主要的受害器官。同学们，如果你们家的温度计打坏了，里面的水银流出来了，你们知道如何处理吗？

Here are some right ways to deal with it.

1.Open the windows at once and keep them open for more than two days.

2.Use gloves when you clean it and collect it with hard paper card and put it into a bottle and cover it. Never use water or broom(扫帚)to clean it.

3.Turn off the TV, the air conditioner（空调）, the electrical fan, or any electrical appliance（电气用品）before you leave.
