还记得CE: Teens去年12月号“娱乐直播室”栏目里的《阿呆反击战》系列文章吗？《狙魂交易》里讲述的就是这样一个善良又懦弱的“阿呆”被逼上梁山，万般无奈下只好改变自我，渐渐成长为一名称职的恶灵猎人。故事不算新颖，但编剧显然擅长于“旧瓶装新酒”，将萨姆的经历打造得轻松爆笑又人情味十足，在紧张刺激的抓鬼冒险之余发人深省――

21岁生日那天，萨姆从父亲口中得知自己的灵魂竟然被卖给了魔鬼――正当他不知所措时，魔鬼出现了……
The Devil: Hey, look, I get it. It’s a big deal. You didn’t choose it. Not fair. Nobody’s blaming you for freaking out.
Sam: Do I have to…do I have to go to Hell now?
The Devil: Now? No (laughs), no, no, no. Not now. You’re going to work for me here in the earthly realm[人世，俗世].
Sam: Like…kill people?
The Devil: Wow, you’re a real pessimist[悲观主义者].
Of course you won’t be murdering anyone. You’re just going to bring escaped souls back to Hell. You know, like a bounty hunter[赏金猎人]. That’s cool, right?
Sam: …Wait a second. So people can break out of Hell?
The Devil: Yeah, yeah, that’s a problem we’ve been having lately. But that’s not your problem. All you have to do is track down fugitives[逃亡者] and haul[拉] their asses over to a portal[入口] to Hell. Easy.
Sam: Oh, my God…
The Devil: Hey, kiddo[小伙子], it’s okay. I’ve seen how this all ends. Don’t worry, and you’ll be doing humanity a favor by putting bad guys right back where they belong.
Sam: What do I have to do?
魔鬼：嘿，瞧，我完全明白。这是一件大事，又不是你自己的选择。这很不公平。没有人会怪你表现得神经兮兮。
萨姆：我是不是必须……我现在就得下地狱吗？
魔鬼：现在？不（笑），不不不。不是现在。你要在人世替活。
萨姆：比如说……杀人吗？
魔鬼：哇，你真是个悲观主义者。你当然不必杀人，只要把逃走的恶灵抓回地狱就行。你知道，像个赏金猎人那样。酷极了，对吧？
萨姆：……等一下。那么说，人可以从地狱里逃出来？
魔鬼：是啊，是啊，这是我们最近遇到的问题。不过那不是你的问题。你要做的就是找到这些逃亡者，撵着他们的屁股把他们拖到地狱的入口――简单得很。
萨姆：我的上帝……
魔鬼：嘿，小伙子，这没什么。我见过这类事情的结局。别担心，把坏家伙赶回他们应该呆的地方，你是在造福全人类。
萨姆：我要做些什么？

Sam: Well, I’m not exactly kicking ass up here. You should just find somebody else before the guy kills more people.
The Devil: You do this a lot, don’t you?
Sam: Do what?
The Devil: Give up. Things get hard little Sammy takes the path of least resistance[阻力].
Sam: Fine, fine. I’m a failure.
The Devil: I’ll tell you what. Before you throw in the towel, why don’t you do some investigating[调查]
first? Look for motivations[动机]. I mean, why does the fireman do what he does?
Sam: Who cares? Why…why burn down anything? He already did that when he was alive.
The Devil: Exactly! I think you’re on the right track, Sammy. I feel very good about this. Word of
caution[警告]: I don’t accept failure…EVER.
萨姆：我办不到。我尝试过，可这太难办了。我的朋友受了伤，还让那个消防员逃走了。你……你找错人了。尽管把我拉下地狱吧，怎样都行，我无所谓。
魔鬼：不，事情不是这样子的，萨米。你到下面对我根本没任何帮助。

魔鬼：你经常这么做，对吧？
萨姆：做什么？

“kick ass”在这里作动词短语用，源自“kick-ass”――后者是美国俚语里的常见表达，用来形容别人强而
有力。
“throw in the towel”原本是拳击用语。当拳击手眼看不敌对手时，其教练就会抛一条毛巾进场，表示认输。这个词组随后流传开来，表示“承认失败，宣告放弃”的
意思。
没接触过“on the right track”？这个词组其实源自更常见的“on the wrong track”。当我们不认同别人的观点时，除了说“you’re wrong”或者“you’re mistaken”，还可以说“you’re on the wrong track”。因此，“on the right track”的意思恰恰相反，表示“思考的方向对头了”。

zero results. You know, I’m very disappointed. You have the vessel[容器], open the box! There are souls out there wreaking[带来] havoc[大破坏]!
Sam: Well, I…I’ve been busy. I have another job, you know. I don’t think I’m the guy who should be taking on the forces of Evil.
The Devil: No?
Sam: I know you own my soul and all, but I think the world would be better off if I worked for you, in a lesser capacity.
The Devil: Such as?
Sam: Well, I haven’t come up
with[提出] the full plan or anything, but…maybe I can get the word out[发表],
you know, like a recruiter[征兵人员]. I can start my own satanic[恶魔的]
website, with the evil design, and then have really cool, devil graphics or something and…
The Devil: Business is booming[急速发展], Sam. I don’t
need any help with recruiting. I need help putting the damned back into Hell where they belong. Is this about you being afraid?
Sam: No…yes! Yeah, yeah, very much yes!
The Devil: Well then, I have words of wisdom that apply to your condition. If you find yourself facing a steep[困难的], uphill[艰难的], bloody battle, only two choices you can make: quit, or put one foot in front of the other and tough it out. Inspiring, huh?
Sam: And if I don’t tough it out?
The Devil: You gotta do your job, Sammy. You ignore it, nice folks die. And I know you don’t want that, do you?
萨姆：你这是在干嘛？你非要不停地把我带到不同地方吗？
魔鬼：哦，显然我一定要这样做，因为我之前为了敦促你干活而作的努力都白费了。你知道，我对你很失望。你已经拿到容器，那就把盒子打开啊！恶灵正在外面大肆

萨姆：呃，我……我最近很忙。我还有一份工作，你知道。我想我不是那块对抗邪恶势力的料子。
魔鬼：你不是？
萨姆：我知道我的灵魂完完全全属于你。但我想，如果我能用一种负担小一点的方式为你工作的话，事情就会好办多了。
魔鬼：比如说？
萨姆：呃，我还没想好全盘计划，但是……也许我可以当你的传话筒，你知道，就像征兵人员那样。我可以建自己的魔鬼网站，用上邪恶风格的设计，再放些超帅的恶魔图片之类的……
魔鬼：我的生意很好，萨姆。不需要你帮忙招兵买马。我需要有人把那些该死的家伙送回地狱，那才是他们应该呆的地方。你说这些是不是表示你在害怕？
萨姆：不……是的！对啊，对啊，就是这样！
魔鬼：那么，我有一句适用于你这种情况的至理名言――如果你发觉自己面对着一场困难重重、艰辛险恶的激烈血战，你只有两种选择：逃跑；或者把一只脚挪到另一只脚前面，克服一切撑过去。很受鼓舞吧？
萨姆：如果我没撑过去呢？
魔鬼：你应该恪尽己责，萨姆。你若，好人就会遇害。我知道你不想事情变成那样，对吧？
口语锦囊
“better off”是一个很常用的习语，指（如果……的话）某事的情况有所改善或某人的状况更好，一般都以“would be better off”或其变化形式出现在句子中，例如：
You’d be better off without him. （没有他你会过得更好。）
“tough sth. out”表示“渡过难关，从困难中硬挺过来”的意思，多用于非正式场合，例如：
A lot of people would have resigned in the face of such accusations, but he stayed and toughed it out. （面对这样的指责，很多人都会辞职，而他却留下了，硬是挺了过来。）
萨姆和心仪的女孩因为魔鬼的挑拨而交恶，与他的好朋友索克也因意见相左而闹翻――但通过随后的任务，萨姆终于明白了一些事情……
Sam: I made a mistake. I totally admit that, and I have apologized for that on numerous[许多的] occasions.
Andi: Sam
Sam: I’m not finished. You and I started out as friends. And even if you don’t think it was real…I did. I still do. So you have to forgive me, because one mistake is not enough to just throw everything away.
Everybody screws up[搞砸]. I will, you will, and…I’ll probably, definitely do it again. But I…I really…I miss what we had and I’m not gonna let it go that easily, so...
Andi: You practiced that speech?
Sam: …Oh yeah, I did.
Andi: It was good. You usually don’t take a stand like that. You’re right. I mean, you’re absolutely right. You deserve[应受] better.
Sam: Good. Great.
Andi: I…I’ve gotta be honest with you. I was completely miserable[痛苦的]. I…I just can’t stand being in a fight. I’m so bad at it.
Sam: I don’t know. You’re pretty effective with the whole silent treatment[对待].
Andi: Yeah. But I have a stomachache all day. So...what should we do?
Sam: We do what friends do. We…get a beer after work tonight?
Andi: (laughs) Okay. Yeah, that sounds really good.
(Sam goes out, finding the Devil outside.)
Sam: You look happy.
The Devil: Oh, I am. Halloween is over. My demons[恶魔] are back in Hell, torturing[折磨] the damned. All is right with the underworld. I just wanted to see my favorite employee. You know, you were the only one of the lot of them who actually did his job these last few days. I’m
touched, Sam. Why don’t you and I go out on the town tonight, huh?
Sam: Can’t. I’ve got plans with Andi.
The Devil: Andi who isn’t talking to you? Andi?
Sam: She is now.
The Devil: All right. Tomorrow night then.
Sam: Meeting Sock. (The Devil looks surprised.) Yeah. All that crap[废话] you said about humanity and betrayal[背叛] and stuff? You’re totally wrong about that.
The Devil: Am I?
Sam: Yeah. You really are negative, you know? It warps[包裹] the way you see the world. You should think about that a little. Maybe talk to somebody professionally. Anyway, I’m gonna go. Good talk.
The Devil: Sam, I invented therapy[心理治疗],
okay? So that the wicked could
justify[证明……是清白的] their actions.
Sam: (laughs) Starting to be able to figure out when you’re lying as well.
萨姆：我错了。我承认我错了，而且已经多次向你道歉。
安迪：萨姆……
萨姆：我还没说完。你和我从一开始就是朋友。即使你不这么认为……我认为我们是朋友，现在还是这么想的。所以你必须原谅我，因为一个错误并不足以把我们之间的一切一笔勾销。每个人都会犯错。我会，你也会，而且……我有可能、肯定还会再犯错。但……我真的……我很怀念我们过去的友谊，我不会轻易放弃的，所以……
安迪：你排练过这些话？
萨姆：……没错，我练过。
安迪：说得真好。你通常不会这么强势。你是对的。我的意思是，你说得很对。我应该对你好一点。
萨姆：太好了，好极了。
安迪：我……我得和你说实话。之前我难受极了。我……我受不了和人吵架。我很不擅长这方面。
萨姆：我可不这么想。你那冷战的法子还挺有杀伤力的。
安迪：是啊。但我胃疼了一整天。那……我们现在该怎么办？
萨姆：我们做朋友该做的事情。我们……今晚下班后去喝一杯？
安迪：（笑）好。对，听起来真不错。
（萨姆出外，看见魔鬼。）
萨姆：你看上去兴致勃勃的。
魔鬼：噢，我确实很高兴。万圣节过去了，我的恶魔们回到地狱，继续折磨那些坏蛋。下面一切都正常起来了。我只是想来看看我最喜欢的员工。你知道，过去这些天来，只有你一直埋头工作。我很感动，萨姆。今天晚上不如跟我去城里逛逛吧？
萨姆：不行。我和安迪约好了。
魔鬼：那个不和你说话的安迪？安迪？
萨姆：她现在跟我和好了。
魔鬼：好吧，那就明天晚上。
萨姆：约了索克。（魔鬼一副吃惊的样子。）没错。你之前那些关于人性和背叛之类的鬼话？你彻底错了。
魔鬼：我错了？
萨姆：是啊。你确实蛮消极的，你知道吗？这会影响你对世间万物的看法。你得好好考虑这一点，或许找个人聊一下――找位专业人士。我得走了，和你聊天真开心。
魔鬼：萨姆，心理治疗是我发明的，好吧？这样恶棍们就可以给自己开脱了。
萨姆：（笑）我已经能分辨出你是不是在说谎了。
