美剧《欲望都市》已经成为一个时代的经典，也许因为当年的热播盛况为人所久久不能忘怀，于是在如今这个卖萌才是王道的时代，擅长打造年轻时尚偶像的CW电视台就利用拍前传的方式来了一次时光倒流，让女主角凯莉回到少女时代，在今年年初推出了《凯莉日记》。
故事发生的地点依然是在曼哈顿，时间回溯至凯莉的高中时代，讲述这个80年代的青春少女对爱情、友情等的最初困惑。16岁的她刚遭受了母亲去世的打击，父亲无法应对突变，妹妹更无比叛逆，尽管英俊的转校生为她带来了初恋的兴奋，但凯莉依然提不起精神，直到父亲提出把她送去曼哈顿的律师事务所实习。纽约的光怪陆离与繁华时尚在第一时间就让凯莉着了迷，初到大城市的她爱上了曼哈顿的生活方式，并不顾一切地去融入这里的时尚氛围。

新学期第一天早上，凯莉找不到妈妈留给她的手提包，她确信是叛逆的妹妹多莉特偷拿了。在和妹妹争执的时候，爸爸过来了……
Carrie： Give me back my purse， Dorrit！
Mr. Bradshaw： God， what the hell is going on in here？！

Carrie： She stole mom’s purse.

Carrie： I don’t have anything to wear.
Mr. Bradshaw： Come on. You’ve got a whole floor full of clothing.
Carrie： No. Mom used to take me shopping for an outfit. It was…was a thing we did， you know？ Back-to-school clothes.
Mr. Bradshaw： Okay. Did you want me to take you？
Carrie： No. No. That was...um...supposed to be mom.
Mr. Bradshaw： I see.
Carrie： I just...I need the purse. I...I need a piece of her.
Mr. Bradshaw： I have an idea. （Takes Carrie to Mrs. Bradshaw’s closet， then picks up a pair of sunglasses and gives it to Carrie）
Carrie： Really？
Mr. Bradshaw： Yeah. Just...try not to let ’em get broken in your backpack.
Carrie： I’ll be super careful， I promise.

“How （are） you holding up？”也是一种与人打招呼的用语，但要注意，它一般是见到一位刚刚经历过不幸或者遭遇了挫折的朋友时的问好方式。“hold up”表示坚持、经受考验。所以这句话一般可以译为：还撑得住吗？

Carrie： I can’t take that.
Larissa： Oh， of course you can. You deserve[应受] it. You’re a one-of-a-kind. You don’t believe it， but one day you will.
Carrie： How will I ever believe that？
Larissa： You know the fairy tale Pinocchio？
Carrie： Yeah.
Larissa： Well， that little puppet[木偶] was a pretend boy who became real because he believed it.
Carrie： Actually， Pinocchio could only become real if he told the truth， and he couldn’t.
Larissa： Okay， well...then not that story. The point is， sometimes you have to fake[伪装] it to make it. After a while， what’s fake becomes truth.（Carrie finally gets back to office and her boss is already waiting there）
Boss： You’re an hour and a half late.
Carrie： I…
Boss： Can explain？ Maybe I should explain. I’m the person who signs that little sheet that gets you credit for this internship.
Carrie： But…
Boss： But you think you’re young and cute， and because your dad is friends with Harlan Silver―one of the partners here―you’re not accountable[有责任的].
Carrie： No. I know I am. These are the binders that are already done. Well， 50 of them. I still have the last ten to do this afternoon. When the printer realized their mistake， they offered to collate[校订] them free of charge[免费]. Uh， and here’s the Constantine’s case. Oh， cases. There were two different Constantines， so I brought them both just to be safe. And…um...here.
Boss： What is that？
Carrie： It’s a scarf. I know you have something special tonight， so I thought you might like this.

《匹诺曹》又称《木偶奇遇记》（The Adventures of Pinocchio），是十八世纪意大利作家卡洛・科洛迪（Carlo Collodi）留给世人的经典童话故事。故事的主角是一个名叫匹诺曹（Pinocchio）的小木偶，他一心渴望成为一个活生生的男孩。蓝仙女答应了他的要求，但要求他必须学会诚实，如果说谎，鼻子就会变长。还没有认真意识到诚实重要性的匹诺曹，鼻子很快就越变越长，并且麻烦的事情也接踵而至！终于，在经过无数艰辛的磨难和考验后，匹诺曹总算了解到诚实的含义，也变成了一个真正的“人”。

Dorrit： I did ask. He said， “Not now，” which means never.
Carrie： And he doesn’t think we know that.

Carrie： Okay. I get it. But...now you have to take care of it. You can’t just stick it in a shoebox. It should have food and water， a wheel. I mean， at the very least， a cage.
