翻译：陈顺熙 The story is about a 10-year-old boy named Lucas Nickle. Recently moved to a new city with his family, he hasn’t made a single friend. He gets nothing but 1)grief from his teenage sister. Neither does he get a whole lot of attention from his parents, who are busy planning their big 2)anniversary weekend trip to Puerto Vallarta. Meanwhile, his loving but kind of strange grandmother, Mommo, spends all her time trying to protect the family from those outer-space 3)aliens she’s been reading about in the magazines.

To make matters worse, Lucas has become the number one 4)target of local 5)bully Steve, who never misses a chance to 6)push him around.

In turn, Lucas enjoys destroying anthills in his front yard ― taking out his anger on the 7)mounds of dirt and their tiny 8)inhabitants by kicking them, 9)stomping them and 10)squirting them with the garden 11)hose.

But Lucas never knows that there is a whole world alive and busy just under his feet. What he sees as “just a 12)bunch of little ants” are actually members of a 13)complex society, with names and relationships, 14)responsibilities and emotions. They get tired of having their homes destroyed by Lucas, and they’re ready to fight back.

The magic 15)potion that Wizard Ant Zoc has long been working on is finally finished. Just one drop in Lucas’s human ear and he is immediately shrunken down to ant size. He is taken deep below the anthill to be placed on 16)trial.

The Head of the Ant 17)Council announces Lucas guilty of “crimes against the 18)colony.” Lucas is sentenced by the wise Ant Queen to live among the ants and learn their ways to earn his freedom. He finds himself in an 19)incredible landscape suddenly full of life ― and danger ― that he never noticed or even imagined before.

Against Zoc’s wishes, his kind-hearted partner, Nurse Ant Hova, volunteers to guide this human boy. In order to teach Lucas the ways of the colony and help him find that one special talent he has to contribute, she 20)has her hands full (all six of them) just to keep him away from trouble and out of the stomachs of frogs and wasps.

As Lucas gets used to his most unusual 21)circumstances, he learns valuable lessons about friendship, 22)compassion, teamwork and 23)loyalty that will serve him for the rest of his life. He also begins to gain the courage to stand up for himself, no matter how difficult it may be.

Lucas’s new-found “ant skills” will be put to the test when he is called upon to help his new friends to defend the anthill against destruction from the local 24)exterminator ― right on the Nickles’ front yard.
