House of the Dead 4 Special Reaches Arcades

Like so many shambling undead, units of the House of the Dead 4 Special arcade game have started making their way into select arcades and amusement centers throughout Japan. An expanded version of House of the Dead 4, the two-player game sports many features geared toward increasing the players' sense of immersion. For example, it is fully enclosed and features a pair of 100-inch screens positioned in front of and behind the players, players sit on seats that automatically swivel throughout the game, the seats are force-feedback-enabled to provide jolts at appropriate moments, and blasts of air will tell players when they've been hit.

When the PSP was released in the US in early 2005, Sony ran into some troubles with its graffiti-themed ads, drawing fire from some for defacing public property. Now it looks like new PSP ads have caused more uproar. A campaign in the Netherlands promoting a new ceramic white-colored model has landed the company in more hot water. In the controversial piece, a white woman is wearing a scowl on her face and holding a black woman in all black by the jaw, and reads "PlayStation Portable White is coming". Sony has claimed that there was no ill intent with the ads.

Electronics-maker Samsung has signed up for another year as a sponsor of the World Cyber Games. Organizers expect about 700 players to attend the championship in Italy, and will dole out about $76,000 in prizes. This year's tournaments feature two Xbox 360 games, Dead or Alive 4 and Project Gotham Racing 3, and six on the PC - Counter-Strike, FIFA 06, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Starcraft: Brood War, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Winter Assault.
