Xikun Qi was born in Beijing in 1942 with family origin in Laizhou， Shandong Province. His style name is Gong and his literary name is “A Commoner of Shandong Province”. When Xikun was young， he became fond of calligraphy， enjoying the harmony between black written words and white paper. Inheriting his family tradition at a young age， he first studied Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan （two famous calligraphers in Tang Dynasty）. While he worked as an administrator at the site of a famous ancient stone tablet in Yexian County， he was fortunately taught by Professor Weisong Jiang， a famous scholar. Later， he often explored ancient stone inscriptions and monuments with masters like Mr. Yin Kang， a master in ancient Indian culture， ancient writing and painting， Mr. Meilin Han and Bingsen Liu. He also exchanged ideas and works with visiting scholars from Japan and Southeast Asia including the president of Japan’s White Fan Book Origination. The works of Xikun have been widely collected by enterprises and individuals in America， France， Hong Kong， Taiwan， Singapore and Canada.

Xikun has devoted his whole life to truth and practicality， without concern about fame. Obsessed with calligraphy， Xikun holds the promotion of calligraphy essence to be his own responsibility. He commits himself to writing， constantly learns from others and thus gains many friends.

Xikun practices his writing every day and widely imitates stone inscriptions. Xikun has a deep foundation of calligraphy， is capable of nearly all calligraphy styles and focuses on cultural connotation of works. The calligraphy of Xikun is characterized by fresh and elegant， smooth and powerful styles， which can only be achieved by learning from the merits of various styles. Xikun is especially noted for works of large sizes. He has imitated Zheng Daozhao’s Wei tablet style for years and can write in that style particularly well. Xikun is good at masterworks. He once wrote three famous articles by Mao Zedong for The Chinese Military Museum to celebrate the 80th anniversary of army founding and the work was 10 meters long and 2.5 meters high. His works have also been included into the large-scale writing and painting collection to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Communist Party， the collection to greet Olympics and the writing and painting exhibition of China across the strait.
