Jiangsu People's Publishing House, founded in 1953, is a comprehensive publishing house with a nearly 60-year histories. It is an national level publisher, and one of the first "National Top 100 Books publishing units”, which undertaking a number of publications of national key projects, with more than 400 kinds of books received the Excellence Awards successively in the provincial level or above, among which 17 kinds of books have won the National Awards for 21 times.

Since the 1950s, the books of Jiangsu People's Publishing House have repeatedly been chosen and sent to exhibit or issue in Japan, Korea, the Soviet Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Uruguay, Brazil, Venezuela, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Yugoslavia, the Southeast Asia and other countries and regions, etc.

Since China's reform and openness, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has taken the lead in the work of bringing in the overseas outstanding books. And it promoted the Overseas Chinese Studies Series since 1989, which built an atmosphere trend first in the intelligentsia, the publishing industry and academia. After that, a large number of outstanding foreign social science classics were brought in one after another, and the Selection Series of Chinese Translation for the Public was made then, which developed and became the key publishing project – Phoenix Library of the Phoenix Publishing & Media Group later, resulting in a wide range of impact. Among them, the books introduction of John Rabe and Churchill Memoirs, etc., were well known.

In recent years, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has brought in many masterpieces of high-quality, including the forefront works of Western philosophy and the political science, the research works of the contemporary Western Marxism, as well as the ideological and humanistic series, the culture and life series, the political and economic series, etc.

At the same time of the introduction of outstanding books by Jiangsu People's Publishing House, it has carried out a series of research and development works of the social science books. The most remarkable social science books at home and abroad, including History of Western Philosophy, Modern History of China, The Course of Modernization of the World (6 Volumes), The Course of Modernization in China (3 Volumes), The New Version of the History of Religion Series (5 Species), Collect of Nanjing Massacre Historical Data (72 Species), etc., has come out in succession and won the national awards for several times.

Since China began to implement the China Book International Project from 2007, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has considered its own responsibilities of seeking and promotion of the excellent Chinese culture boutiques and achieving of the “Out-Going” of Chinese culture and Chinese publishing as its historical mission. For five years consecutively, it has delivered the state-funded outstanding books to abroad.

Since the establishment of the funded project of “Classic China International Publishing Project” and the selection of priority funding for the works of high-quality delivering to the abroad in2009, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has acquired four years’ project funding in the “Classic China International Publishing Project” continuously.

In recent years, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has considered the implementation of the “Out-Going Project for Foreign Cooperation of Jiangsu People's Publishing House” as a lever to make effort to build a platform for the Out-Going of the outstanding Chinese social science reading materials, and promote a batch of Chinese books, which were of plentiful Chinese cultural characteristics, the considerable academic standards and the cultural connotations, to enter the horizon of the overseas readers. Among them, many books, including Symbols of China, Totem and Chinese Culture, The Blue Glaze of Blue-and-White Porcelain, and Confucian Filiality, etc., have been published in the Asian countries and resulted in repercussions. And they were considered as the important works, which could be on behalf of the Chinese culture, and the important tool to study Chinese culture.

In the past two years, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has also put forward a series of excellent works of high-quality, which were filled with Jiangsu and Chinese cultural characteristics, and the pictures and accompanying essays of which were both of excellence. The scope of copyright output has been changed from the neighboring countries to the expansion of Europe and the United States. Among them, they were: Chinese History on the Map (4 Species), compiled by the well-known scholar Ge Jianxiong, A Series of Pictorial Albums of Chinese Traditional Arts (8 Species), compiled by Yi Cunguo, Jiangsu Culture Series?Sceneries Volume (12 Species), compiled by Liang Baiquan. The batches of output of these excellent books have greatly accelerated the pace of “Out-Going” of the social science books of the presss. Among the vote of the “You Must Be Aware of the 100 Kinds of Chinese Books” chose through the public appraisal by Chinese Book Business Report for this year's Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany, a total of 13 kinds of books were rated from the books of Jiangsu People's Publishing House, including Confucian Filiality, Chinese History on the Map, and A Series of Pictorial Albums of Chinese Traditional Arts, etc. And also these 13 books have become the successful contract-signing output project of the “The Out-Going of 100 Chinese Books” for the United States at the 19th Beijing International Book Fair in 2012.

Jiangsu People's Publishing House has actively carried out the books export business to abroad. At the present time, among the Chinese presses, Jiangsu People's Publishing House is a unique key export enterprise of national cultural products in Jiangsu, which is rare nationwide.

In recent years, Jiangsu People's Publishing House has published the excellent Party-construction Reading Materials, which were of significant impact, and filled with readable, understandable, and popular sales. And it has published the books, which interpreting the major strategic decisions of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as well as the Chinese government experience and other aspects, etc., reflecting China's reform and openness, and the resolve of the “three rural” issues, etc. For example, The Readings Series for Striving for Number One and the Pursuit of Excellence, First Resource --- Concise Textbook for Scientific Talent Concept, A New Starting Point for Non-Public-Ownership Enterprises’ Party-building, From New Countryside to New Country, Learning After Doing, etc., many of which have been officially published in foreign countries, and have been fully affirmed by the governments concerned and the readers.
