选修八第四单元的写作是如何续写戏剧,要求同学们接着课本的话剧讨论下面发生的故事,并尝试写作。我们来点评一下同学们的习作:

A 余柯玮

H: Let’s begin with practicing your pronunciation. As you know, it is a must to express yourself as an elegant lady. Thus, you’d better learn the important social skill by reading aloud the articles.

E: But-t I am not sure about the clear. (worriedly)

H: Never mind, just have a try.

E: (start reading) Lan-guage is just a stone on my way to a lady in a flower shop...

H: (cut in her words) Read following me! Language.

E: Lan-guage...

H: Listen to me carefully. Lan-guage is just a stone on my way to a lady in a flower shop’stead of assistant of selling flowers. Take it easy and try it.

E: (hesitate) Language is just a stone on my way to a lady in a flower shop’stead o’selling flowers.

H: (laughing) Great! Well done! One fault you should pay attaintion to ― a shop assistant. It’s only when you repeat it again and again that you can grasp its pronunciation exactly.

E: Shop’stead, shop’stead... a shop assistant.

H: How brilliant you are! The more you read, the more you know. The more you practice, the better your pronunciation will be!

E: (smile) Thank you so much. I’ll try my best!

B 骆佩

(Professor Higgins is waiting for Eliza to come to their second lesson. He looks up and smiles as she enters the room.)

H: Ready for our lesson?

E: (slowly and carefully) Ye-es....

H: Let’s start with the basic expressions. How do you get a person’s name?

E: (timidly) Maybe by asking “what’s yer name?”

H: No, no, no, it’s not the standard or upper class English. Instead, you should say, “what’s your name” instead of “yer”, you know?

E: Ok, what’s yer-ye-r name?”

H: (seems to be very strict) “Your” keep your mouth open wide. Once again!

E: What’s-yer-name ... what’s-yer-name...

(Higgins is sitting in the armchair with his eyes closed, listening to her pronunciation.)

H: Ok, you can stop mow. Remember to use your instead of yer... then, the next, what your dream?

E: I wanna be a lady in a flower shop...

H: Well, from now on, I forbid you to use wanna or gonna since it doesn’t agree with a lady’s status. You are supposed to say want to or go to.

E: (confused) But why? I think it’s not bad. I got used to that.

H: (losing patience) How come you have so many whys? Just obey what I say.

E: (almost cry) I’ll bear it in mind.

(Mrs pearce is knocking on the door.)

MP: Lunch is ready, professor Higgins.

H: Ok, I’m coming. I think you need to think over what I teach you this morning before you have lunch, oh, and do wash your hands.

(Then, Higgins gets out of the room, leaving Eliza surprised and painful.)

E: (to herself) It’ll kill me...(sobbing)

【点评】

这篇习作对学生有两个基本要求:

1. 续写的内容应符合原作的角色性格特点和语言特点,续写内容应合情合理并有一定的创意;

2. 尽量结合本单元主题使用所学的词汇和表达,使其起到画龙点睛的作用。

下面我们就以这两点为标准来点评一下这两位同学的习作:

这两位同学在续写的内容中所刻画的角色分别为Higgins和Eliza:

Eliza部分

余柯玮

E: (hesitate) language is just a stone on my way to a lady in a flower shop’stead o’selling flowers.

E: But I am not sure about the clear.(worriedly)

骆佩

E: (timidly) maybe by asking “what’s yer name?”

E: (almost cry) I’ll bear it in mind.

E: (to herself) It’ll kill me...(sobbing)

(Eliza的性格特点在两篇习作中几乎相同:想达到梦想,但又缺乏底气。)

Higgins部分

余柯玮

H: Never mind, just have a try.

H: (laughing) Great! Well done! One fault you should pay attaintion to ― a shop assistant. It’s only when you repeat it again and again that you can grasp its pronunciation exactly.

H: How brilliant you are! The more you read, the more you know. The more you practice, the better your pronunciation will be!

骆佩

H: (seems to be very strict) “Your” keep your mouth open wide. Once again!

H: (losing patience) How come you have so many whys? Just obey what I say.

H: Well, from now on, I forbid you to use wanna or gonna since it doesn’t agree with a lady’s status. You are supposed to say want to or go to.

在余柯玮同学的习作中,我们可以看到的是一个比较有耐心且善于鼓励学生的老师。而在骆佩同学的习作中,我们看到的则是一个比较严厉且不太有耐心的老师。

另外,这两位同学不仅对上一幕的剧情进行了合理的延伸,在续写的同时都注重使用了一定的词组和搭配来刻画人物形象,为文章增色不少:

余柯玮

H: It’s only when you repeat it again and again that you can grasp its pronunciation exactly.

H: The more you read, the more you know. The more you practice, the better your pronunciation will be!

骆佩

(Higgins is sitting in the armchair with his eyes closed, listening to her pronunciation.)

H: (losing patience) How come you have so many whys? Just obey what I say.

(Then, higgins gets out of the room, leaving eliza surprised and painful.)

在余柯玮同学的习作中,丰富的句式结构,如强调句式和比较句式,是一大特色。而骆佩同学胜在善于非谓语动词来表达人物心态并刻画背景。两位同学都用一些形容词来烘托人物的心情并由此起到画龙点睛的作用。

综上,在进行戏剧续写时,我们在抓住人物性格特征的同时,也应注意细节表述,并大胆设想,创造更多生动、合理、有趣的情节。
