As a girl born in the 1990s, she has a ready wit in writing fairy stories.

She has had a deep affinity for reading since her childhood. So her mother bought her a great number of books and tapes about fairy stories so that she could read and listen to them on a daily basis. She has collected 5,000 to 6,000 copies of books, most of which are about fairy stories.

In her opinion, besides the real world, there is a fairyland, more beautiful and more mysterious. There are Snow White, lovely small animals, mystical castles, etc. She likes the affectionate, blithe atmosphere; she loves the sincere, kind-hearted characters, and feels concerned about their fate—now giving a chuckle of delight, now shedding tears of sadness. She has developed the habit of keeping diary since her primary school. In the beginning, she would replace Chinese characters she didn’t know how to write with Pinyin, the Chinese alphabet. Thus, childish, funny diaries were brought into being.

One day at the age of seven, she saw beautiful cuckoos in the trees while at play with her parents outdoors. She heard their crisp, sweet chirps and halted to observe them carefully. Back home, she wrote a fairy story “I’m a Cuckoo”. Her father read it and spoke highly of it. He transcribed the story and contributed it to the press. She was honored with the first prize of the national essay competition for the fairy story and was rewarded with 200 yuan. And then, she got the second prize of “West Lake Cup” National Teenagers’ Literature Competition for her second fairy story “Tiger and Rat”. Since then, she has started her career as a prolific writer who creates a number of fairy stories with her ready pen. She has successively won more than 60 awards above the provincial level, such as the 17th Bing Xin Literature Award, prize for National Children’s Literary Creation Competition, “Andersen Cup” National Children’s Literature Award, and Chinese Drama Award. Meanwhile, she published her works of fairy stories Buds and Wings of Love, winning endorsements from such famous writers as Liang Xiaosheng and Ye Zhaoyan and obtaining such honorable titles as “National Civilized Teenage Pacemaker” and “Person of Chinese Education in 2010”. Moreover, she is also “Charity Ambassador of Chinese Contemporary Literature”. Her name is Guo Qin, a high school student in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu.

Since she earned money by writing fairy stories, she has successively donated her cash rewards, contribution fees and sales income to charity. As frequently as several hundred times, she has donated money and materials, valued at about 480,000 yuan altogether, to poverty-stricken mountain areas, disaster-stricken areas and charities. She erects a monument of reaching out to those in need with her tender shoulders, becoming known as “the senior philanthropist born in the 1990s”.

Guo, in her teens, comes from an ordinary family. Her father is a civil servant and her mother is a laid-off worker. She leads a thrifty life, always begrudging the pocket money her parents give her. But she never begrudges helping those in need. To help more people, she gives herself an assignment: she writes at least two fairy stories every month and contributes them to the press as entries of various literature competitions. As a kind-hearted girl, she can write stories about love and be compassionate to the disadvantaged. She said, “Poverty and sufferings always touch my heart. I am deeply moved by the disadvantaged who don’t abandon themselves in the face of poverty. I consider it an obligation to help them, and I feel happy to do so.”

On International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, 2010, she was invited to Diaoyutai State Guesthouse for Poverty Reduction and Development Forum and the award ceremony of the 3rd Chinese Poverty Reduction Awards, which was hosted by Poverty Alleviation Leading Group Office of the State Council and U.N. delegations to China. The Vice Premier Hui Liangyu conferred on her the trophy and certificate of “Moving Award” for the 3rd Chinese Poverty Reduction Awards.

With her purest kindness, she is like a good princess in the world of fairy stories. Guo Qin can also be called Kindness.
