这栋房子位于旧金山的伯纳尔海茨附近,是最古老的房子之一,自1860年起就一直座落在这里。失修多年,这栋古老的房子已残旧不堪,而费尔德曼建筑事务所的主要任务就是维修、扩大和翻新这栋又小又黑的房子,但同时要保持原有建筑古朴的魅力。为了做到这一点,设计师尽量保持原有的建筑外观和结构,在此基础上进行改造。

房子分为两层,设有一个车库、卧室套房以及工作区。为使狭窄的空间自然流畅,设计师增加了一个具现代风格的实木楼梯,搭配铁艺的设计在这栋房子里并不显得唐突。客厅中的屋顶与房子的交接处,设计师将其切断,用以开辟一个中央控制灯,其光源足以照亮厨房及客厅。客厅内设有一面超大的落地窗,与后院相连接,保证白天光线的充足。后院的粗石、正面的玻璃以及错落的金属和木材夹杂在一起,将新注入的活力带入了这个曾经被忽视的旧建筑当中。

二层是主人的工作区及休息区,整面的书柜由一楼延伸至二层整面墙,随着阳光的照射,映衬着偌大的落地窗,仿佛可以闻到书卷的气息。与书柜相邻的便是工作区,艺术氛围浓厚,不经意摆放的吉他,、油画,推测房子的主人应该是个艺术工作的从业者。木制的吊顶与铁制栏杆,简洁而利落,空间虽小却张弛有度,用舒适的色调来和谐紧凑的空间。睡眠区由于房顶结构的因素反而在视觉上扩张了面积,软装饰品的搭配,透入出温馨而浓郁的生活气息。

One of the oldest houses in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, this 1860’s cottage sat in disrepair for years.Feldman Architecture’s charge was to repair, expand and modernize the small, dark house while maintaining the rustic charm of the original building.

To accomplish this, the firm kept the façade and envelope of the existing structure and added a contemporary, but unobtrusive addition:a narrow, ten-foot-wide wing that contains a garage, bedroom suite and studio office spaces on two levels. The roof and upper floor in the center of the house were cut away to create a central light core that washes a stone wall and illuminates the kitchen and living room. Large new windows create a connection with the backyard. Careful mixing of rough stone and wood with clean glass and metal breathes new life into the once-neglected structure.
