我们一行去年从嵩山游览少林寺下来到了山脚的一个村庄，刚进村头就被一个明显带有外国口音的女声吸引住了。蓝眼金发、身材高挑的洋妞穿着朴素随意的运动装，头发利索地盘在脑后，除了能看出她是练武人之外，几乎和村里其他媳妇没有什么区别。她坐在一个洒满阳光、供奉着释迦牟尼画像的农家小院里，面带微笑谈起了她的异国婚姻及生活，满足了我们的好奇心。金发蓝眼的西方姑娘因为热爱中国功夫不远万里来到中国，悄然走进河南省登封市的农村，与当地农民组建了生龙活虎般的习武家庭。
少林拳脚孵出爱情鸟
来自费城的劳瑞虽然在美国接受教育长大，她的心中却蕴藏着一股对有着五千年古老历史文化国家的向往与热爱。在来中国之前，劳瑞已经在美国拜师学习了5年的中国功夫和坐禅。几年前，她终于有机会来到吉林四平市师范学院留学，令她没有想到的是，除了有机会继续学习中华武术的精髓之外，一个小伙子也闯入了她的心扉，他就是武术教练王新朋。王新朋的善良淳朴及一身过硬的武功吸引了劳瑞的目光，他的出现在她平静的心湖投下了一颗石子，“是命运的决定，是上天安排我们注定要在一起”，劳瑞回忆起他们的最初，脸上流露出幸福的神情。经过了几个月的热恋，两人感情日渐加深，4年前的冬天，劳瑞在她的名字里正式加上了一个中国人的姓氏，并毅然决定跟随回到丈夫的家乡――有“武术之乡”美称的登封，开办属于两人的武术学校，让他们共同的梦想得以延续。
如今，结婚已几年的劳瑞夫妇，婚姻生活依旧沾糖裹蜜。她亲切地称呼丈夫为“朋”，两人在教授洋弟子武功之时不断切磋刀枪棍棒技艺，浓浓爱意也在这些“切磋”中流淌。当提出为他们拍张合影时，劳瑞还用带着洋味儿的中国话对丈夫说“朋，抱抱我”，嗔怪他对自己不够亲近。
农家媳妇样样能干
“王新朋娶了个洋媳妇!”他们的结合在全村上下引起了不小的轰动。父母在替他高兴之余也有些担心和不理解，语言不通无法沟通、新媳妇是否能过惯农村的苦日子等等都成了王新朋父母的心病。不过随着婚姻生活的开始，公公婆婆和村人也就不再是雾里看花、水中望月，而是一天天地真真切切起来。
从没做过农活的劳瑞，跟着丈夫和公公婆婆一切从零学起，耕地、割麦、收玉米、摘棉花，养鸡、喂猪一样不落下，我们看她娴熟地挑起扁担去地头打水，蹲在门口边和邻居唠家常边用手灵巧地摘棉桃，提着盛放白菜的桶给猪喂食，一招一式都颇有老农民的架势，俨然成了家里家外一把好手，笼罩在公公婆婆心头的疑云也不见了，全家人和睦相处，十分融洽。劳瑞还和丈夫养了两条狼狗和两条可爱的哈叭狗，一方面为了看家护院，一方面也为了工作之余排遣寂寞。她还幽默地为其中一条狼狗取名，另一条狼狗在她的调教下日见机灵，居然可以听懂英文，只要劳瑞拿着棍子向它喊“Inside!”小虎便会乖乖地钻进自己的窝。劳瑞说，她已经深深爱上了这片土地，在这里，有自己的田地种植作物，不用为生活发愁，这种没有压力、悠闲自得的农村生活正是她所期盼的。
农闲时光丰富多彩
在闲暇之余，劳瑞最喜欢上网，她利用一台电脑和远在美国的亲人朋友写信、聊天，以缓解思乡之情。目前，劳瑞正在用英语写一本关于中国历史的书，书中的文字和插画都由她一人完成。
与其他女人一样，逛街和美食同样是她的爱好。劳瑞表示，虽然她也会为丈夫做西餐，但始终还是中国菜好吃，糖醋里脊、宫保鸡丁和麻辣火锅都是她的最爱。农村生活也使劳瑞学会了怎样勤俭持家过日子，她说，现在学校处于发展阶段，非常需要钱，所以要开源节流，每两个月才到郑州一趟逛逛商店和吃一次饭。
提及日后的打算，劳瑞信心十足：要回美国再开一所武术学校，给没有条件却渴望来河南学习少林功夫的家乡人创造条件，将中华武林绝学发扬光大。
我们都被她的真诚与执著所感动，劳瑞这枝嫁接到河南农村家庭树上的树枝，已经用她的爱贯通了国与国、人与人之间的叶脉，“执子之手，与子偕老”已经不再是一句枯燥的誓言，它意味着从决定的那一刻起，两个相爱的人就要用一生的操守与热情让这片绿荫长青。
最后问劳瑞还会不会想家，她真诚地说：“已经不再想了，因为这里就是我的家。”而她唯一的遗憾，是三年没有过圣诞节了。
Love the Martial Arts, Love the Man

One day last year we toured the Shaolin Temple on the Songshan Mountain. On our way down, we visited a village at the foot of the mountain. To our surprise we saw a foreign woman. She was a tall blonde, dressed in a sport jersey. Her hair was neatly pulled back in a bun. She looked like a woman who practiced martial arts. Otherwise, she was almost like other women in the village.
Her name was Lori Wang. Her house had a painting of Sakyamuni. All smiles, she told us about her marriage and life in China In the sunny courtyard.
A girl who grew up in Philadelphia, USA, Lori had a passion for China. Before she came to China, she had practiced martial arts and Zen for five years. Then she got herself enrolled in Siping Teachers College in Jilin Province in northeast China. She fell in love with Wang Xinpeng, a coach of martial arts. In the winter four years ago, they married and moved back to Dengfeng, Wang’s home town, known as the home of martial arts in central China’s Henan Province. The couple set up a school to teach martial arts. Some students at the school were foreigners.
Wang Xinpeng’s marriage with a foreign woman caused a stir in the village. Wang’s parents felt both happy and a bit nervous about whether the daughter-in-law could adjust herself to the rural life. Lori began to learn the farming from scratch. Now she is pretty good at doing all kinds of farm work and house chores. The couple and their parents live together happily. The couple also has two German Shepherds and two Pekinese.
Lori kept in touch with her friends in USA through Internet. While at leisure, she wrote emails or chat with them on line. Lori was writing a book on Chinese history. She would also do the illustration for her book.
Like other women, Lori loved shopping and eating gourmand food. She now and then prepared western food for her husband, but her favorite dishes were Chinese food such as pork fillet with sweet and sour sauce, diced chicken with chili pepper, and chafing dish. Lori had also learned to lead a thrifty life. The school was still in the first growing stage where every cent counted. Lori and her husband would do shopping once every two months in Zhengzhou, capital city of Henan Province.
When talking about the future, Lori was confident. She wanted to set up a school in USA to promote Chinese martial arts. Listening to her story and her plan for the future, we were touched by the earnest look in her eyes.
When we asked whether she missed home, she said no. Her home was right here in this village in China. But she felt regretful that she had not celebrated Christmas for three years.
The couple was happy. They practiced martial arts together every day. When we offered to take their pictures, Lori said in accented Chinese to her husband, “Peng, come and hold me!”
