一、前制性设空

所设空格的答案由已读过的上文内容所决定,这类题的难度相对较低。

[例1](2008年广东高考)These tell the story of a mother whose baby grows sick and pale and has changed so much that it is almost 24 to the parents.

A. uncomfortable B. unbelievable

C. unacceptable D. unrecognizable

解析:根据前面的changed so much可知,选unrecognizable,即选D。

[例2](2009年广东高考)When his time was up, he would be thought of only as one who profited from death and destruction.

To make sure that he was 26 with love and respect, Nobel arranged in his will to give the largest part of his money to establish the Nobel prizes...

A. repaid B. described

C. supported D. remembered

解析:由前面的when his time was up, he would be thought of only as one who profited from death and destruction可知,Nobel 为了改变这种形象,“为了让人充满爱意和尊敬地‘铭记’,他……”,故选remembered。

二、后制性设空

所设空格的答案由未读过的下文内容所决定,相对前制性设空题,其难度稍大一点。

[例3](2008年广东高考) Not all of these fairies are the friendly, people-loving characters that appear in Disney films, and in some folktales they are 22 and cause much human suffering.

A. powerful B. cruel C. frightened D. extraordinary

解析:本题的答案要根据后面的cause much human suffering而选cruel。

[例4]A Home Food cook in Palermo may cook a traditional Milanese dish to perfection, but that dish isn’t

______ for a Home Food dinner because it’s not local.

A. available B. successful C. appropriate D. stable

解析:根据下文的because it’s not local可知,在Palermo即使把Milanese菜做到完美也是不“合适的”,故选C。

三、既前制又后置性设空

所设空格的答案要综合考虑空格前的上文和空格后的下文才能作出正确选择,这类题难度相对较高。

[例5](2007年广东高考)Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to remember passwords (密码) ever again?If we could just sit in front of our computers and be 21 logged in (登录)? Crave mentions how NECSoft BiodeLogon system uses face recognition technology to log you on to Windows, rather than using a password.

解析:通过空格前后两句可知,不用登录,只是通过面部识别技术完成登录。故选automatically。

[例6](2009广东高考)The article read. “Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday. ”Nobel was upset to find out not that he had died, but that, when his time was up, he would be thought of only as one who profited from 25 and destruction.
