World Cyber Games (WCG) is gearing up[使做好行动准备]
for its tenth anniversary! This international video game competition will be held from September 30th to October 3rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The WCG 2010 Grand Final will feature gamers from more than 60 countries battling to be crowned champion in ten official game titles and three promotional game titles,
including FIFA Soccer 10 and League of Legends. Each participating country will conduct preliminary[初步的] rounds and a National Final to find its best gamers. Considered the globe’s largest video gaming event, the Grand Final is the proving ground for the world’s elite[精锐] gamers, who will compete for a worldwide prize purse of around $250,000.
“Over the past ten years, we have seen tremen-dous[极大的] growth and interest in the World Cyber Games,” said Hyoung-Seok Kim, the CEO. “As gaming has evolved into a core part of mainstream culture, WCG has broadened its appeal[吸引力] by expanding to computers, mobile devices, and gaming entertainment consoles[控制台], and will feature more than 500 players and tens of thousands of spectators at the Grand Final. Bringing the Grand Final to L.A., home of many major game developer studios, promises to be one of best WCG events to date.”
Founded in 2000 to bring different cultures together through competitive gaming, WCG is one of the largest gaming organizations in the world. During the WCG 2010 Grand Final, spectators will xperience the competitive atmosphere of e-sports while interacting[互动] with new technologies and products from WCG partners, including Samsung’s new mobile phone, Galaxy S.
“Samsung Electronics has been the worldwide partner of World Cyber Games since its inception[创始] ten years ago,” a Samsung executive said. “Hosting the games in Los Angeles should be an exciting opportunity, as we continue to provide the latest technology for the competitions.”
Last year, more than 82,000 people attended the Grand Final in Chengdu, China. In bringing the Grand Final to the United States for the third time, WCG will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in the world’s largest video game market.
“This event will bring an economic impact of millions of dollars to the city,” said an official from the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau. “L.A. is the perfect destination for this event, and we look forward to welcoming the international delegates[代表].”
