Beatles changed the music world
No other band has already had the same influence in the world as the Beatles. Over eight years and more than a dozen albums, four young men from Liverpool, England, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Star changed popular music and culture forever.
People in the UK became crazy about the Beatles in late 1963. The phenomenon (现象) was called “Beatlemania” by the British press. The term referred to the young women seen screaming at the band’s concerts. Beatlemania came to North America in early 1964, and the band’s popularity spread across much of the world.
Within five years, the Beatles’ music changed greatly from their simple early hits (热门单曲) like “She Loves You” and“I Want to Hold Your Hand”.
The band wrote their own songs, explored new ways to create music and struggled for high quality in every album they released.
However, with their popularity came criticism (批评). The press criticized the band as symbols of 1960s youth culture, which celebrated freedom from traditional family roles.
In 1970, Paul McCartney announced he was leaving the Beatles. And the group quietly came to an end.
In the 70s, fans hoped for a reunion, but the group decided to follow their own careers with different degrees of success.
Fans lost hope with a tragedy (悲剧); John Lennon was murdered in New York in 1980.

Angela An is back
Everybody has dark days but not all are strong enough to hold on until things get better.
Angela An is proof of the old saying,“every dog has its day.”
Her second album, “Talk About Love” issued in February, has put her in the spotlight again.
She didn’t get as much attention as last year’s girls when she won the 2004 Super Girl competition. But this didn’t dampen (使…沮丧) her musical dream.
A year’s hard work is providing audiences with a new Angela. Her singing and dancing skills have improved. But these came with a price.
She had a hard time in Japan learning to dance.”Once I danced for more than 30 hours and my mind just went blank,” says Angela.
“I forgot moves I’d learned just a minute ago. I cried because my teacher and other dancers were working even harder than I,” Angela said.“I was sad because I let them down.”
She overcame the difficulties eventually to dance in the album’s music video.
Determined as she is, Angela knows she has more to learn.
“Sometimes I expect too much of myself,” she says,“I’m learning to compromise (妥协).”
If you like her signature song,“Hello, Jay Chou”, the album will be a pleasant surprise. This“girl next door” is maturing (成熟) into a fully-grown young lady.
