Two men were travelling on a train. One was a professor, and the other was a farmer. They sat together but they didn’t talk at first. Then the farmer said, “Let’s guess riddles.”

“OK, let’s make some rules first,” said the professor, “To make the game more interesting, we play it for money. If you don’t know the answer to a riddle, you have to pay me two yuan.”

The farmer thought for a while and then he said, “It’s not fair. You are a professor, so you know more than me. I am just a farmer, I don’t have much knowledge(知识).”

“You are quite right,” said the professor, “but how do we make the rules?” The farmer said, “If you don’t know the answer to a riddle, you should pay me 200 yuan. If I don’t know the answer to a riddle, I must pay you 100 yuan.”

The professor said, “All right. That’s fair. Who will go first?” “I will,” said the farmer, “Here is my riddle. What has four legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?” The professor said, “Mm, that’s a good one. I’m afraid I don’t know the answer.” And he gave the farmer 200 yuan. Then he asked, “What has four legs when it walks, but only two legs when it flies?” “I don’t know, either.” said the farmer and then he gave the professor 100 yuan.
