On September 29th, Nintendo held a conference to announce the final price and release date for the

Nintendo 3ds in Japan, exhibiting the hand-held’s new features and showing off a wide range of games in production. Here is a quick summary of what we know about the 3DS so far:

The groundbreaking[突破性的] feature of the Nintendo

3DS is, of course, its ability to display 3D images

without the need for glasses or a new TV. We’ve seen it in person, and it’s no cheap gimmick[花招]. A slider near the upper screen lets you adjust the depth until it’s

comfortable for your eyes, or you can switch the

effect off altogether. While it embodied the same basic form factor as the Nintendo DS, the 3DS is an all-new

machine internally. And Nintendo has a strong lineup[阵容]

of 3D games in production with a renewed focus on

increasing third-party support.

In addition to upcoming games, Nintendo has

announced plans to bring movies to the platform. More interestingly, a pair of cameras on the exterior[外部]

allows you to capture 3D images. Virtual[虚拟的] objects can even be placed onto these real-world images to create augmented[扩张的] reality games.

The upper screen has a new Sharp

wide-screen display while the lower screen is reserved for standard display and touch-screen control. Additionally, the 3DS has a 360°

analog[类似物] slide pad and internal motion

sensors[传感器] to enhance[提高] control. Improved wireless functionality[功能性] includes a tag[标签]

mode called “Street Pass” that scans for other players matching any of your games, allowing

you to trade stats[即statistics，统计数值] simply by

walking past other 3DS owners. Games

previously purchased through DSi-ware can be transferred over, and you can expect new titles specifically made for the 3DS.

Nintendo’s newest hand-held is set to launch in Japan on February 26th for 25,000 Yen. The pricing for North America and Europe is still

unknown. It’s clear that all this new tech comes at a price, but as for the games themselves,

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has stated that prices should be similar to current DS software.
