1. Mall Of The Emirates, Dubai

This mall claims to offer its patrons the world on a plate. While the claim might be slightly over the top, it is also not entirely off the plate. Find African fare at Momo by Almaz (with delicacies like Pigeon Pastilla or Pigeon Pie and Lamb Tagine) to the steaks and other delicacies inside the chic Parisianinspired interiors of St. Maxim. Try the fusion Indian curries at Asha’s(owned by Asha Bhosle) or the West Asian fare at Al Halabi. There are two expansive food courts with counters offering sushi, pizzas to crêpes.

2. Dlf Place, Saket, Delhi

This mall is home to the country’s first streetfood court. The Food Chowk gives visitors a taste of the flavours of the old walled city (namely Chandni Chowk’s Paranthewali Gali and Jama Masjid’s Karim’s) and stalls at Dilli Haat, a space to come together and create a carnival of food. Be it the special Bengali thalis at Bijoli Grill, chaat and lassi at nathu’s or Tandoori Chicken and Butter Naan at Moti Mahal Deluxe, just roll up your sleeves and get to work. This mall holds the record as the fourth largest shopping mall of the world. And it has dedicated corners for satisfying the cravings of a rumbling stomach. The hypermarket is lined with arrays of meats, exotic vegetables and sauces from every corner of the world. Just outside this is Taste Asia, a food court with ten stalls led by local chefs. Don’t miss the seafood specials at San Miguel by the Bay, located at the back of the mall.

4. The Emporium, Bangkok

This upscale mall offers myriad options from South Asian fast food including sushi, Thai and Asian food on the go to a gourmet court called Park Food Hall, which serves elaborate sitdown meals. This food hall is more like a mini restaurant arcade. All you need is a coupon worth THB 2,000 to choose from mezze platters, bento boxes, fish and chips or good old Pad Thai. Keep at least an hour for a round of the supermarket which stocks local and global ingredients. Sticklers for fine dining can also drop in to the elegant Greyhound Café and experiment with its fusion menu spanning Asian and Western traditions. Try the Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken or Paradiso Beef with Rice in Hot Pot and end with the delicious Temple Flair (a mixture of coconut jelly, dried banana, mango and mixed berry sauce with raspberry ice cream).

5. Pacific Place, Hong Kong

This beautifully designed mall houses gourmet restaurants, cafés and a mammoth food court called the Great Food Hall, spread over 34,500 sq ft. The Hall also has a gourmet shop besides international cuisine counters and a café. Don’t stop your culinary journey here, climb up and sample the fare at standalone restaurants—such as traditional American food like Baby Back Ribs and Cioppino at Dan ryan’s Chicago Grill and Beijing favourites at Peking Garden. End on a sweet note at La Maison du Chocolat, the luxury chocolatier. .hk

6. Pavilion Mall, Kuala Lumpur

This hip, new kid on the block offers plenty of regional fare to those on the lookout for some local nosh. The 30,518 sq ft food court has a bunch of Malaysian, Singaporean, Chinese, Indian, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese streetfood stalls. Also, there are four mini restaurants offering Italian, Japanese, teppanyaki and grills, and coffee and Singaporean kaya toast. There are also a bunch of fine dining options such as Bosphorus Fine Turkish Cuisine (try the Imam Bayildi or stuffed aubergine in olive oil), Angus House (for speciality steaks with Japanese inspired sauces) and Kampachi specialising in Japanese food from Ginza.

7. Westfield, London

Westfield boasts some of the best names in the food business. Spread over three areas—the Southern Terrace, The Balcony and The Loft—it is a veritable fiesta for foodies. Soak in the aromas of freshly brewed Italian coffees, fresh-out-of-the-oven flans and homemade ice creams at Ca’puccino. Sample the flavours from a rustic Italian kitchen whipped up in Chef Jamie oliver’s inimitable style. Dig into a range of burgers at Gourmet Burger Kitchen. This mall is foodie heaven. The two giant food courts, in VivoCity offer two very different dining experiences. Food republic is modelled after rural market dining experience. The décor recalls the atmosphere of a traditional Malaysian village and the food is also complete with aromas of authentic local cuisine. So expect plenty of stalls and pushcarts loaded with food. The second food court captures the essence of Singaporean cafés serving breakfasts along with local favourites. Located in a historic 19th-century building, this mall is also a treat for the eyes. Home to seven world class restaurants, the focus here is on the highest standards of quality. Award-winning Jean Georges offers delectable French cuisine from eminent chef in a sophisticated setting. Treat yourself to a lavish weekend brunch at Georges. Right next door is nougatine, a bistro by the same chef. House of Wine offers some of the best wines from French organic vineyards and Cupola is a private dining venue with great views of the city.

One of the largest shopping malls in the U.S. located in sunny California, South Coast Plaza is considered the last word in luxury around these parts. It is home to over 30 standalone restaurants including several Michelin starred ones. Luxury indeed permeates through every chink in this mall and the food options mimic their designer retail counterparts. Go mad on cow at Lawry’s Carvery(a restaurant serving fresh slices of cooked meat) renowned for its roast beef, Yorkshire Pudding and salads.
